- A traffic crash was reported every 247 seconds.

- A person was injured in a traffic crash approximately every 13 minutes and 50 seconds.

- A person was killed in a traffic accident approximately every 9 hours and 44 minutes.

- There were 377 (42 percent) deaths in traffic accidents with no restraint used.

- Most Alabama crashes (75.2 percent) occurred in urban areas, but most fatalities (60.2 percent) occurred in rural areas.

- For each fatality, there were 42 injuries.

- Of all drivers involved in fatal accidents, 8.3 percent were age 19 or under and 18.6 percent were under 25 years of age.

- Of all fatal wrecls, 49.6 percent occurred at night (including dusk to dawn).

- The pedestrian death toll was 84.

- There were 97 deaths involving motorcycle or moped riders.

- Bicyclists account for five deaths.

- There were eight deaths with train involvement.

- For occupants who are in wrecks while in the front seat of a vehicle, the probability of being killed is 50.5 times higher for those not wearing safety belts than those who are properly restrained.

- There were 277 deaths in which no safety restraint was used by the driver; 56 deaths by unrestrained front seat passengers and 35 deaths by unrestrained back seat passengers.

- There were 189 deaths in which safety restraints (shoulder and lap belts) were used by the driver; 46 deaths by restrained front seat passengers and 14 deaths by back seat passengers.

- In Alabama, there were 899 traffic deaths with 247 of those traffic deaths having apparent alcohol involvement.

- In Jefferson County, there were 112 traffic deaths with 16 of those traffic deaths having apparent alcohol involvement.

- 2011 Accident Statistic for Jefferson County:  23,057 total crashes; 4,972 total injuries and 112 total deaths.
